I visited at multiple times of the day and it seemed like it was always bustling. Likewise, the gym itself also appeared to be constantly well trafficked. I didn't mind, but the openness might bother those who are looking for a more serene gym experience. When I arrived, the cafe area was also playing host to around 10 high schoolers on their lunch break. This is similar to a lot of other Equinox locations, but in Flatiron, home to New York's own brand of startup hustle and grind, it's turned into a full-on workspace. The locker rooms felt like huge dungeons in the basement - in a chic way - but the steam room was notably small, and the on/off button on the digital scale was physically punched out somehow. This probably had less to do with the location and more to do with the nature of Equinox classes, where everyone is a dabbler. In my heated yoga class, nearly everyone left all their clothes on - a far cry from other Bikram-style classes I've taken at studios where practitioners show up nearly naked. When I visited, the crowd tended to be a mix of fitness obsessives in the late 20s to early 30s, and fashionable women in their 40s and 50s. Each time I visited, it didn't feel crowded, but there was also a ton of space if needed - Yelp reviewers testify that the after-work rush can get crazy. Its three functional fitness floors had ample room for stretching and all the necessary equipment without feeling cramped. Built in the 2016 Equinox boom, the year the company built or acquired five different locations in New York City, the Bond Street location is large, spacious, has tons of natural light, and has a strong aesthetic centered around its red brick interior. ![]()

I rushed to Genoa, then to Paris and to England and sailed for America. I was in Italy and I wished to get home as soon as possible. Someone asked, “Who influenced you to compose ‘Stars and Stripes Forever,’” and before the question was hardly asked, Sousa replied, “God–and I say this in all reverence! I was in Europe and I got a cablegram that my manager was dead. In a Sousa Band program at Willow Grove we find this account: When asked why he composed this march, he would insist that its strains were divinely inspired. Sousa was very emotional in speaking of his own patriotism. That the players never tired of it is surely a measure of its greatness. Many former Sousa Band members have stated that they could not recall a concert in which it was not played, and that they too were inspired by looking into the misty eyes of those in the audience. Usually it was played unannounced as an encore. The piece was expected–and sometimes openly demanded–at every concert of the Sousa Band. ![]() The sight of Sousa conducting his own great band in this, his most glorious composition, always triggered an emotional response. With the passing years the march has endeared itself to the American people. Many bands still perform the piece this way. It was his practice to have the cornets, trumpets, trombones, and piccolos line up at the front of the stage for the final trio, and this added to the excitement. This became traditional at Sousa Band concerts. There was a vigorous response wherever it was performed, and audiences began to rise as though it were the national anthem. “The Stars and Stripes Forever” had found its place in history. Capitalizing on this situation, Sousa used it with maximum effect to climax his moving pageant, The Trooping of the Colors. It grew gradually in public acceptance, and with the advent of the Spanish-American War the nation suddenly needed such patriotic music. … Symbolic of flag-waving in general, it has been used with considerable effectiveness to generate patriotic feeling ever since its introduction in Philadelphia on May 14, 1897, when the staid Public Ledger reported: “It is stirring enough to rouse the American eagle from his crag, and set him to shriek exultantly while he hurls his arrows at the aurora borealis.”Īside from this flowery review, the march’s reception was only slightly above average for a new Sousa march. Winstead maintains our attention, though, as she limps to some sort of retribution, as pointless as it might be with death a few cough-ups of blood away, her punches continuing to land with more impact than any eye-rolling attempts at profundity do. ![]() When the last act strikes, Aleem isn’t able to find a way to reveal the twisty, if predictably so, plot with much finesse and so we’re stuck with a laughable exposition dump between two nefarious characters each telling us things they already know. It does of course make her superhuman fighting abilities a little bit harder to believe as her condition worsens (epipens can only do so much against polonium) but it’s clear from the outset that we’re not headed towards a happy ending. The 24 hours to die gimmick is of course nothing new (it recalls both 1950’s DOA and its 80s remake as well as countless copycats) but the radiation touch is at least an effectively gnarly update as Kate’s body slowly disintegrates over the course of the movie. There’s a wild, kinetic car chase and some nifty, gory fight scenes and a real sense of place, utilising the ability to actually shoot on location (remember, low bar). The film around her is at least a tad more realised, directed with a rambunctious energy and while Nicolas-Troyan’s influences are worn on his sleeves and entire outfit as a whole, he’s able to give Kate that much-needed boost that makes it into a real movie rather than a Netflix movie. The attempts to show that she does actually have some individualism and distinguishability are too mild (she likes lemon soda) and too rote (she stares at kids sometimes because ovaries) and so despite the film being named after her character, Kate is utterly anonymous. Kate is told that she is less a person and more of an instrument and despite Winstead trying her very best, that’s far too true of the character, even by the finale, who does little more than point and shoot. It’s a particularly frustrating way used by mostly male screenwriters to humanise female killers, also used recently in Netflix’s other neon-hued assassin film of the summer Gunpowder Milkshake, as if strong-willed women need to be reminded of their maternal instincts. The quest reunites her with the girl she orphaned (because of course) which lumbers the film with an age-old trope of the cold-blooded killer who warms around the presence of a child. It’s time to quit but on her last job, Kate is given irreversible radiation poisoning and has just 24 hours to figure out who wants her dead and why. She’s urged to pull the trigger, though, and 10 months later, finds herself still quietly haunted by what she did. But as her mark gets into view, she sees that his daughter is by his side, her “no kids” rule stopping her from making a clean shot. It’s Osaka and trained killer Kate (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) is prepping for a job accompanied by her boss, mentor and father figure Varrick (Woody Harrelson). It’s cobbled together from so many familiar ingredients that I was surprised to find out that an actual human (Umair Aleem) wrote it rather than some sort of computer and even viewers with a vague knowledge of the assassin subgenre will feel a suffocating sense of deja vu from the cold open onwards. That’s just about the amount that this deserves, a serviceable Friday night choice that gets the job done just fine, enough to turn it into a hit for the streamer (the far less convincing Jason Momoa actioner Sweet Girl skirted around their top 10 for much longer than deserved) but not quite enough to insist that anyone actually bothers to make time for it, unless drunk or out of all other options. ![]() ![]() ![]() Overall, Google Earth Pro has improved my efficiency and accuracy in the work assigned to me by giving me a more complete and detailed view of the architectural projects, soil surveys, and construction projects I have been involved with. They can drill through an inch of wood in 5 or 6 days, but they don’t eat it. They use their mouthparts, called mandibles, to chew or “drill” through the wood. Their preferred homesite is softwood like pine, redwood and cedar. The holes are part of their nest, known as a gallery. How Do Carpenter Bees Drill Holes?Ĭarpenter bees love to make holes in untreated wood. Learn all of the tips and tricks we have acquired over the years with our How to Repair Carpenter Bee Holes guide on how to simply and effectively fill carpenter bee holes. Along with a ½” hole and yellow tint near the hole, wood shavings at the base of the wooden structure can usually be a good indication of carpenter bee infestation. This bee will usually not sting as it does not have a stinger, but will do whatever is deemed necessary to protect its nest. These holes might come with a yellow hint at the bottom of them or a guardian carpenter bee buzzing around the outside of these holes. It is more than common for these nests to be 2 or more feet long with multiple sub-channels branching off the main tunnel. These holes are usually ½” diameter in any softer wood. VMware made the DPI setting on the client device leading and adjusts the remote desktop accordingly. I like to resize my vmware workstation and I like to have the guest OS resize too instead of just shrinking everything, making only usable in full screen. ![]() |
